Capital letter cards

Capital letter cards

We have added a set of capital letter cards to our online resources. These are useful when teaching children the names of letters rather than the sounds.

Typically, teachers use the lower-case letters to depict the letter sound and the capital for the names. Some teachers might add a gesture to reinforce the distinction, for example touching your head for the name and placing a hand to the ear for the sound.

As flashcards, you could use these to revise letter names in the ‘Revisit and Review’ section of your phonics lesson. You could also use them for teaching letter names.

Alternatively, they could be used as part of a wall display as a reference point for children when you want to remind them about when and where to use capital letters in their writing.
